So my first weekend back in the city reminded me why I love this city so much. It started Friday night. I headed downtown to babysit for Lissette and David's baby Gabriel. When I got off the subway there were people everywhere getting things ready for September 11th remembrance events which would take place the next day. It was the first time I was able to see the two beams of lights shining up and it gave me chills. I still can't believe it's been 9 years.
Anyway I got to Lissette's and there were two giant bags from Whole Foods waiting for me containing something for every possible food craving one could have. It was so sweet of her, but totally unnecessary. The baby was asleep when I got there so I talked to Melin on the phone, watched 3 episodes of True Blood Season 3 and ate some chips/salsa. The only thing that would have made the night was if Gabriel had woken up so I could have played with him for a little bit. They are the cutest family and I love them!
Woke up early Sat and headed to Central Park for my 4 mile race. The weather was perfect and the speeches before we started were inspirational. I had my best time yet despite not having run in 3 weeks. Finished with a 8.23 min miles. After the race I headed home to shower, get a mani/pedi, get ready for the Charlotte Ronson fashion show and headed to Jasmine's so we could walk to the show. I actually got a seat this time instead of standing room. Nicki Hilton, Russell Simmons, Josh Groban and Solange were in the front row and Samantha Ronson was the DJ. After the show Jasmine, Scott and I were walking out and there were lots of people milling around outside. This photographer stopped me and asked to take my picture. I was like sure and automatically struck a pose. I laugh when I think about how ridiculous I probably looked. Definitely awkward face like Chandler Bing on Friends. There were other photographers around who also started taking my picture. They were probably like well if this guy thinks she's someone then maybe she is so we better just take a few. The photographer had a tape recorder and asked my name. Jasmine, Scott and I were joking that the guy probably worked for some foreign magazine or was just some random guy trying to pick up girls. Either way the whole thing was ridiculous and flattering.
After the show Jasmine and I headed to the Time Warner Center to have dinner at Landmark and catch up. We shared prosciutto and mushroom flatbread and a chopped salad to start. I had mussels & french fries as my main course. The food was delicious and the ambiance was cool. I'd definitely go back. Around 9 we headed to Jasmine & Teddy's friends penthouse apt. Teddy (Jasmine's husband) was there with a bunch of their Dartmouth friends. We sat on the roof, drank and chatted. Their apartment is pretty close to Times Square so the views were pretty cool. I was happy to meet a fun new group of people. The group didn't want to go out so Jasmine and I headed out on our own. We went to Sway and had a great time. Lots of dancing & laughs. She told me at dinner she thought I went for the guys that were the center of attention and that's why I haven't found love. She thinks I need to look for the more reserved friend in a group of guys. We tried to test this theory at Sway, but there weren't that many interesting groups of guys and Jasmine took her contacts out so she was a blind wing(wo)man. I'm going to definitely be more conscious of the guy in the group I'm drawn to and see if I'm overlooking good guys.
Today I woke up around 10, got ready and met Ruda to take the train to Hoboken. Cheri met us at Lauren's apartment where we hung out with Brody & Joe for a little while and then went to a 3 hour brunch. It was such a good way to spend a rainy blah day.
So in summary, the reason I love this city so much is because only here can I go from babysitting, to running a race in the best park, to fashion week, to sitting on the roof of a 30 story building with a totally new group of people to meeting some of my favorite people in the world for brunch on a rainy Sunday.
